The Huser Edition of Paracelsus' Works

The Huser Edition

The fact that the bulk of Paracelsus's writings has been saved to posterity is due to the happy instance that John Huser was able to present a complete edition of the non-theological works at a very early time. This edition appeared between 1589 and 1590 at Basle in 10 volumes. Because of a delay caused by the printer the surgical books, already having been prepared by Huser, were to emerge only in 1605 at Strassburg after his death. In the contrary to most other editors, Huser had the unique opportunity to use the original manuscripts written by Paracelsus himself. By that means the substance of the Huser edition is of far better quality than that of the early printings emerging in the sixties and seventies of the 16th century.

At this place selected items of the Huser edition are going to be presented in the internet. Other than in the original, initial letters, with the exception of proper names, are written small. The letters u, v, i and j are chosen according to their actual sounding.
